Queen Mary Gardens

There are two new places of local interest, The Eden Project is now open and The National Maritime Museum is scheduled to open in 2002.

1. The Eden Project - "The Eight Wonder of the World"
A gigantic global garden designed to tell the fascinating story of man's relationship with, and dependence upon, plants set in a breathtaking 35-acre site overlooking St. Austell Bay. The awesome geodesic structures will be the world's largest greenhouses, accommodating a fascinating array of plants from all over the world. Three of the world's climatic zones have been chosen for interpretation; the Humid Tropics biome contains plants from the rain forests and Oceania, whilst the Warm Temperature biome contains plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa and California. Outside sunflowers, lavender and hemp grow alongside each other under the warm Cornish Sun.

2. The National Maritime Museum.
This exciting new complex will house collections from the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich and the existing Cornwall Maritime Museum. The magnificent award winning building will become another of Falmouth's famous landmarks and features a tidal pool, which extends in to the museum itself, an environment and navigation tower and an active boat workshop. A tidal gallery will enable visitors to the museum to view the rise and fall of tide from below water level.

The site adjacent to the Maritime Museum will include places to shop and eat, plus a multi-screen cinema, events square and marina.
